I am one of people who laboured under the misapprehension that Tribal was designed to be a recreation of historical dance styles - and for that reason, I used to believe it was pretentious. It altered my perspective of Tribal totally as soon as I found that Tribal bellydance is in fact modern, American and proud of it!
I am firmly of the asian and cabaret dance styles, although I am not a tribal bellydancer, I adore the costumes. Nevertheless, i appreciated your post. I understood most of this but you have made it quite clear for beginner and I am sooo glad you made the point about the sources of tribal style being a 1960's american creation, its so irritating to need to keep correcting ppl on that!!
